About me

Who/What is Armson A.E?

Armson A.E – Armson Automotive Engineers –  Was originally just about me Stuart Armson a Land Rover enthusiast,  a Land Rover owner and a Ex-Land Rover trained technician,  But things change and how they have changed in 12 years!

I started my apprenticeship at the age of 7,  helping my father fix his trucks at weekends.  In 1987 my father bought his first Land Rover a V8 110 Rowen brown station wagon, the seed was sown and you can see where this is going.

In 1991 I started my first job at a local Land Rover dealer and started my second apprenticeship.  Many years later and a few different manufactures later I became dissolution with working for others and took the plunge and started Armson A.E. that was January 1st 2009.

At the start I was traveling all over the country as one of the first mobile Land Rover specialist in the country,  After a few years it became apparent that I needed a workshop the work load and the type of jobs were not ones that could be done on a drive in the snow any longer,  I searched and found a unit in Syston and on December the 3rd 2010 I opened.

Over the last 16 years I have gone though a recession, nearly gone bust, lost staff, gained staff.

Then Covid struck! Then the government struck! I was left in a predicament carry on, go bust, sell up!

Over the following months I struggled with supply of parts but was enjoying the work, building Land Rover’s again and fixing V8’s, I had hardly done any Mot’s or regular car servicing or repairs (I was servicing and doing Mot tests for medical and emergency services as required) but I was struggling for space to do full rebuilds and space was needed!

In December 2020 I sold the Mot part of the business, cleared out all my kit and cars and parts and moved to Billesdon. January 1st 2021 exactly 12 years after starting the business,  I am starting again in a new building but rather than trying to do everything on every car, I am specialising on :- series 3, 90/110/130 from 1985 to 2016, Range Rover Classic, Range Rover P38a, Discovery 1/2, Freelander 1/2.

We are a family business, we treat every car if it was our own, most times you will get me on the phone or my wife Pen, in 2024 we took on a skilled and trusted mechanic who has worked for me previously and its like Paul never left!

Investment has been substantial over the last 16 years and it would not have been possible (we would not survive) without you the customer!

The service you receive determines whether you will use us again or recommend us to your friends and colleagues.  We are here to help keep your Land Rover on or off the road!

We use the Land Rover/Rover T4 diagnostics and Snap-On diagnostics.

Please be aware that we cannot and will not fit any used or new parts supplied by you the customer as trading standards require by law that we carry the warranty implications which my insurance company will not cover.

We pride ourselves on quality and genuinely care, it is more than just a business! The quality of the parts, oils and service provided really matters. We are straight talking and very honest. We are not the cheapest but we do offer good value, and that is reflected in the level of service you receive, from first contact to driving away with the work completed.

Many years ago I was advised by a very wise mechanic (my father)

“Oil is the cheapest safeguard to long engine life, don’t change it and it will cost you dearly in the long run!”
